IRIS, in partnership with the University of Addis Ababa, was to install a seismometer tunnel in Mount Furi to monitor seismic activities in the region. In this endeavor, Minex Microtunneling was the main contractor on this project and was tasked with the responsibility of building the tunnel.

This structure has a length of 38 meters, a width of 2 meters and a height of 2.5 meters. The tunnel and portal were stabilized using shotcrete lining with a thickness of 50 mm and concretization with a thickness of 150 mm was also applied on the tunnel floor. This entire tunneling project was completed within 3 months.
